Sports Desk: Bangladesh Cricket Board officials said on Monday that four zonal teams of age-level cricketers under 19 will compete in the men’s cricket event of the upcoming Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games.
BCB decided to hold the event with age-level cricketers as most of the domestic players will be busy competing in the National Cricket League, starting on March 22.
BCB officials informed that all the seven one-day matches of the competition will be played in Barishal from April 1 to 10.
“We are going to pick a total of 60 players in the pool, to determine the squads, as basically we are going to consider the players that are outside the national team, mostly from the age-based groups, like players from the under-19 squad, as well as the under-17 players, that are currently practising in the BKSP,” BCB game development manager AEM Kawser told reporters.
“High-performance players are considered as the prospects for the national team as they are going to feature in the upcoming national league cricket. So we are excluding them from the equation and focusing more on the age-based groups,” he added.
Kawser added that the event won’t clash with the Under-19’s tour of India where they will take on Afghanistan in a five-match one-day series.
